January 2010
Welcome to the
web site for the Alaska Region of the International Shotokan
Karate Federation. ISKF-Alaska, aka Alaska Shotokan Karate.
We are a non-profit organization comprised of karate dojos
throughout Alaska. We have several Anchorage clubs, as well
as locations in Eagle River, Fairbanks, Juneau, Bethel,
Homer, Wasilla and in the village of Gambell located on Saint
Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea. Our purpose is to
teach traditional shotokan karate from
the principles of Master Gichin Funakoshi,
known worldwide as the
father of modern karate.
Our region has been a member of ISKF
since 1981. Over the years we have hosted many visiting JKA
masters including Master Masatoshi Nakayama as part of his
1984 United States tour, and Master Teruyuki Okazaki and Master Yutaka Yaguchi (founders of the ISKF).
This year will be an exciting one for us as we are fortunate in having Sensei Cathy Cline, 7th Dan and ISKF Technical Committee Member, as our guest instructor for our Spring Dan Testing (April 30 through May 4) as well as for our Alaska Shotokan Karate Camp in August 12 - 15, 2010.
Thank you for
visiting our website, and please e-mail us if you have
questions regarding any of our upcoming programs and
classes, including our adult and youth programs, our
collegiate team and our special self-defense seminars.
Sincerely,
Tony Nakazawa, 6th Dan
Regional Director
